THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Missions Committee Minutes
September 6, 2009The Mission Committee met at the church on September 6th at 6:00 pm. Those present were: Neva Martin, Nelta Hennessey, Herb and Barbara Whitlow, Jan Kieffer, Betty Fergola, Pastor Josh, Darlene Peck and Willa Norwood. Neva opened the meeting with a reading from Micah and a prayer.
Darlene reported that we have $386.00 in our treasury.
Darlene read letters from the Edgerton’s in Haiti stating that they will stay on as missionaries until replacements can be found. She read the necessary items in Birthing Kits that are needed in Haiti and other places throughout the world. We will check into that later.
She read a report from the McCurdy School thanking us for our help and telling us about their activities. We sent $ 483.96 to Youthville and received a nice thank you. They help about 1,600 children a year.
We received a Thank You from the Rescue Mission for our continued support and the $414.00 that we sent to them. We also received a Thank you from Let’s Help for our continued support and the $396.00 that we sent to them.
Bishops Roundup will again be held in November. We decided to continue making health kits for the roundup and in October and the 1st part of November we will collect food items from a list provided. We will do different things each week and deliver to East Topeka Fellowship when finished. This will be a church wide project.
The Society of St. Andrews sent a Hunger Activities Prayer Calendar for the month of September but it came too late to use.
Herb reported that there was a very good turn out with 29 persons attending the CERT meeting on August 24th. It was a county wide meeting and we had a very good presentation about meth labs. Our next meeting will be on a Thursday night in October. No meeting in September as we will take part in Heritage Day and have the CERT trailer available for people to see.
Darlene reported that she has two new volunteers for Let’s Help. Those are LaVene Brenden and Sharrai Mc Cammon.
Respectfully Submitted by Willa Norwood, Secretary
