Tecumseh Community Emergency Response Team
Tecumseh United Methodist Church
January 15, 2011

The Tecumseh CERT meeting came to order at 9:00am. Those present were Herb Whitlow, Neva Martin, Dave Sterbenz, Steve Christenberry, Dusty Nichols, Kevin Smoot, Nancy Rush, Willa Norwood, David and Linda Brink.

Herb referred to the minutes of the February 2007 meeting. At that meeting, initial plans were made and the types of disasters that could occur in the Tecumseh community were discussed. The four types of disasters are ice storms, flooding, tornadoes and hazardous material spills. Basic needs and procedures were outlined for each.

Moving ahead, Herb directed the group to make some decisions on “What can we do now”. Suggestions were:
            Take care of yourself
            Check on you neighbors
Area captains should check on their area
Area captains should report to the emergency shelter (church)
Shelter manager should open shelter and do a walk-around to inspect for hazards and damages
Area captains should check in to report needs and status of their area – make use of the area map
Notify EOC emergency manager that the shelter is open.
            Identify resources
Refer then to the organizational chart assignments to determine, “What is my job going to be now”

Dusty pointed to the need for a community disaster exercise. Having done a run-through would make for a smoother operation in an actual disaster event.

Dusty mentioned four points that it would be valuable to follow up on:
Make use of the Boy Scouts
            Hold a practice exercise
Conduct operation center training- using the map
            Identify resources

It was suggested that the next meeting cover a refresher on Search and Rescue. It will be covered at the CERT training sessions Jan21,22, 28, 29.

Following the CERT meeting, CPR and First Aid training was held.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush
