November 20, 2010The Tecumseh CERT meeting came to order at 9:00am. Those present were Herb Whitlow, Dan and Pat Krug, Dave Sterbenz, Nancy Rush, Steve Christenberry, Jan Kieffer, Willa Norwood, Neva Martin, Kevin Smoot, Steve Vogel, David and Linda Brink, Gaye Metheny.
Herb discussed the e-mail he had sent to ask for replies from those wishing to remain on his listing. He had received 14 replies. Steve had several replies to his request from the county CERT.
Herb told of an interesting book he had read titled And Hell Followed With It by Bonar Menninger. It is a detailed account of the Topeka 1966 tornado and its aftermath.
Steve brought CERT t-shirts and sweatshirts, brochures, face masks, gloves, and water purification packets and made them available to anyone in need.
Members were reminded to replenish first aid kit supplies on a regular basis.
It was suggested that food items could be donated for use in the CERT emergency shelter. Freezer space would be needed for items such as a turkey. Those food items need to be marked and checked regularly for expiration dates.
There will be no December meeting and the next Tecumseh CERT meeting will be January 15, 2011 at 9:00am. The plan is to hold CPR and first aid training at 10:00 that same day.
It was suggested to conduct a review of the CERT training dealing with the marking of buildings after a disaster. This could possibly take place at the February meeting.
Dave will check with Dusty regarding the updating of ID badges. Dave also said that the plans for the fire station at 2nd and Tecumseh Rd. are on hold until spring.
There are still emergency supply buckets with lids for sale.
