Tecumseh Community Emergency Response Team
Tecumseh United Methodist Church

March 16, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Those present were Herb Whitlow, Dave Sterbenz, Dusty Nichols, Nancy Rush, Willa Norwood, Gaye Metheny, Tabitha Pranker, Jan Kieffer, Kenny Ziegler, Neva Martin, Pat Krug, Dan Krug, Linda Brink, David Brink, Cindy Whitsell.

Dusty Nichols was introduced to the group. He is the Emergency Manager of the 193rd Refueling Wing.

Dave Sterbenz, Director of Shawnee County Emergency Management, said that he had met with Berryton Kiwanis Club to encourage the forming of a CERT team in their area. He would like to promote the formation of groups in other surrounding communities. He pointed out that he holds up the workings of Tecumseh CERT as an example. He is considering the possibility of publishing a CERT Newsletter either monthly or quarterly. Volunteers are needed for the event on May 8 at Garfield Park and for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade tomorrow.

Herb discussed some details regarding the event at Tecumseh Park on June 25-27. The pancake breakfast on that Saturday will need some volunteers to help with service. Tecumseh Kiwanis will give us use of the grills and propane tanks. Willa will check on prices of needed items (pancake mix, syrup, etc.) Oftentimes these are purchased through USD 450 in order to get a price break. Set up for the breakfast will need to take place on Friday evening.

Herb has contacted names suggested to him to fill positions of neighborhood captains where there is still a need. He has had one possible commitment.  Herb reviewed the sign up sheet for CPR class. Any not yet on the list but are interested should let him know.

David and Linda Brink have completed the two letters as they were requested. One tells of the Tecumseh Church being designated as a shelter and the availability of Tecumseh North storm shelter if needed. The other letter tells of the county wide disaster event at Tecumseh Park on June 25-27.

We were encouraged to be organized and assign duties of individuals during a disaster.

Dusty gave a thorough presentation of Terrorism and CERT. Information presented was taken from the CERT curriculum.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush
