Tecumseh Community Emergency Response Team Tecumseh United Methodist Church June 28, 2010 The meeting came to order at 7:00pm. Those attending were Herb Whitlow, Neva Martin, Dan and Pat Krug, Willa Norwood, David and Linda Brink, Nancy Rush, Cindy Whitsell, Jan Kieffer, Ingrid Garczarek, Steve and Linda Vogel, Tabitha Pranker, Dave Sterbenz. This was a special meeting called to request attendance by all area captains to review and refresh plans in case of emergency. The question of when to open Tecumseh North door to use the storm shelter was discussed. Dave’s suggestion was to be prepared to unlock the door in event of a storm situation being observed for an extended time. In the case of a recent tornado alert given on a very short notice it would probably not be feasible to try to make access available. Dave pointed out that the Ready Neighborhood Captains should revisit their neighbors to update information and tell them of the use of the school shelter. Dave suggested there be a calling tree put in place to inform captains of the storm status and the opening of the school. Captains should then contact those in their neighborhood most likely to use the shelter. Neva had prepared a handout and led a discussion of emergency situations. In case of ice and flood emergencies shelter would be available at the church. Neva guided the group in discussing the particulars of a flood emergency. Captains should be mindful of areas prone to flooding, who in the neighborhood might have trucks to move household items and who might have places to store those items temporarily. There would also be need for basic food preparation and clean up workers. Dave said the encampment at Tecumseh Park will be rescheduled. Tecumseh Heritage Day will be held in September and it was decided that Tecumseh CERT should have a booth. Handout brochures will be needed for that day. Dave will bring the CERT trailer.
