Tecumseh Community Emergency Response Team
Tecumseh United Methodist Church
Febuary 15, 2010The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Those present were Herb Whitlow, Gaye Metheny, Jan Kieffer, Willa Norwood, Dave Sterbenz, Nancy Rush, Linda and David Brink, Tabitha Pranker.
Herb has revised the groups receiving e-mails. One group will include only the area captains. The other group will include names of the entire disaster team.
Some members will soon be needing CPR recertification. If there is enough response, the class could be held here. Currently CPR is good only for one year. That time constraint will be changing. First aid certification is good for three years. Attendees must have had CERT training to attend these classes at no cost.
In planning for the coming year, Herb pointed out that there is still a need for area captains in some sections. Some suggestions were made to be contacted.
June 25-27 will be the dates for the next Disaster Encampment. Dave suggested that the TUMC building be run on the generator during that time. One meal should be provided at the church. It was suggested that it be a pancake breakfast on Saturday – to be offered for a freewill donation. Neighborhood captains should contact residents to publicize the event and the breakfast.
Program content for the Tecumseh CERT meetings was discussed. Dave stressed the importance of reviewing a portion of the CERT curriculum at each meeting. It was suggested that the program for March could be an update on terrorism.
Dave said there would be a Weather Spotter clinic held at Washburn University on March 8 at 3:00 and 7:00pm.
Herb asked Linda and David to prepare some publicity in two parts. One being general CERT information and another to promote the June Disaster Encampment.
Dave told information regarding the proposed fire station in Tecumseh. It will be unstaffed but could be manned by volunteers if interest is shown. It will be a great benefit to residents north and west in the township who could possibly see a reduction in property insurance.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush
