Tecumseh Community Emergency Response Team
Tecumseh United Methodist Church

November 17, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Those present were Herb Whitlow, Willa Norwood, Dan and Pat Krug, Neva Martin, David and Linda Brink, Jan Kieffer, Nancy Rush, Larry McCammon, Gaye Metheny, Kenny Ziegler, David Greenberg.

Herb reminded the committee that CERT volunteers were needed for the H1N1 immunization clinic at the Expocentre on Thursday, November 19.

Herb announced that there will be no December meeting.

Herb introduced Gary Montgomery. Gary is retired from BNSF where he was involved with hazardous materials used at the BNSF Shop facility. He passed the Emergency Response Guidebook for the committee to review. He stressed the importance of being aware of the placard displayed on any moving vehicle carrying over 1001 pounds of hazardous material. In the case of an accident the first responders can determine the contents by checking the placard number in the Emergency Response Guidebook. In the case of a derailment of a BNSF train, the emergency number to call is 1-800-832-5452. Gary provided a DVD showing situations of disasters involving trains. Gary pointed out that in all our homes we currently have hazardous materials (cleaning fluids, paint, aerosol cans, etc.) – when it is time to dispose of these they become hazardous waste.
Gary will try to get enough Guidebooks for all committee members.

Neva will arrange a program for the January 19 meeting.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush
