Tecumseh Community Emergency Response Team
Tecumseh United Methodist Church
August 23, 2008 Monthly Meeting

Herb Whitlow welcomed special guest Dave Sterbenz, Shawnee County Emergency Management Director.
Members present: Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Willa Norwood, Sarah Gooding, Nancy Rush, Cindy Whitsell, Larry McCammon, David Brink, Linda Brink, Steve Vogel and Herb Whitlow.

Members placed informational stickers on the CERT Brochures which were obtained from SCEM. The stickers listed Tecumseh CERT contact information.

Herb presented The Ready Neighborhood power point program. After the program he handed out the program folders to those members who could not attend the August 18 meeting.
The Ready Neighborhood program was discussed. David and Linda Brink had already started on gathering information in their area. They had found going from door to door seemed to be the easiest way. Everyone agreed that this was the most practical way for our Tecumseh CERT Area.
Dave said that the list of items suggested for each household in The Neighborhood program, some could be found in the Federal Surplus and that as a community organization we were eligible to purchase from Federal Surplus.

There may be a chance that a generator for the Church would be available from Govt. Surplus. Dave also said Westar had a sub base that could be purchased to install on your electrical meter so that a homeowner could attach a portable generator to provide power in an emergency. Cost would be $333.00 plus installation.

While we are gathering information on households for Ready Neighborhood including gas meter locations, special needs for individuals, we may soon have to provide pet information and provide a place to care for them.

September 23rd there will be a Disaster drill at Forbes Field. The Shawnee County Fire Dept. will need volunteers to act the part of injured. More information to follow.

Plans are underway to hold CERT classes at Tecumseh U.M.C. These Training sessions will be open for everyone, those who need make-up classes can pick them up at that time.

Dave has asked the State of Kansas if we could use their CERT trailer for Heritage Days on Sept. 27. Set up time for our display – 9:00 am Sat. Sept. 27 – come and help.

Respectfully submitted,
Willa Norwood, Acting Secretary
