THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Church Council – It shall envision, plan, implement, and annually evaluate the ministry and mission of the church.

United Methodist Church, 2008                 

          The Church Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 7:00pm.Those present were Pastor Josh Gooding, Ernestine Adams, Chairperson, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Fergola, Sarah Gooding, Kathy Griffith, Rita Halderman, Diana Halstead, Nelta Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Willa Norwood, Darlene Peck, Nancy Rush, Colleen Scott, Carole Stone, Barbara Whitlow, Herb Whitlow. 

          Ernestine led the devotional time with a reading which pointed out ways of knowing how blessed we are. For example, “If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death – you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.” She closed the devotional time with prayer. 

          The minutes of the January 3 council meeting were approved as printed. 

          Ernestine asked if there were any questions or comments regarding committee reports. There were none. Printed reports from committees are included in the agenda packet. Ernestine commended those responsible for turning in reports in a timely manner. Neva moved to accept the committee reports as printed. Carolyn seconded.

           A request has been received from the Florence Crittenton Home for the donation of health kit type items needed by their clients. 

          Sarah mentioned that the Washburn Campus Ministry Building will be one of the ERC Designer Showhouses.

 BUSINESS REQUIRING ACTION:
          Ernestine discussed a proposal to charter a bus to go to Pastor Josh’s ordination on June 11. It will take place at Church of the Resurrection UMC. A sign up sheet was passed for those to sign who might be interested in the trip. She will check on prices and interest of others not at council meeting.

 OPEN DISCUSSION:
          Betty reminded council that the Edgerton’s will give a presentation about their missionary work on March 23 at 7:00pm. She asked council members to encourage attendance to hear of their time in Haiti.

           At this point in council meeting, Ernestine showed the recording of the first in the series of Five Fruitful Practices discussion groups. This first topic is “Radical Hospitality”. The session took place at First UMC in Topeka. District Superintendent Evelyn Fisher introduced the presenter who was Rev. Adam Hamilton, Pastor of Church of the Resurrection UMC.

 PASTOR’S CLOSING THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS:
          Pastor Josh shared that he was so appreciative of the chance to attend recent workshops and educational opportunities.  He found all most meaningful. He closed council meeting with prayer.
