THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Tecumseh United Methodist Church Administrative Council met on March 1, 2009 with the following present: Nelta Hennessey, chairlady, Pat Krug, Darlene Peck, Carole Stone, Virginia Martinson, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Waller, Rita Halderman, Jan Kieffer, Donna Johnston, Pastor Josh, Larry McCammon, Ernestine Adams, Neva Martin, Steve Hennessey, Olga Hennessey, Herb, Barbara, and Christine Whitlow and Willa Norwood.

“Kiss and Make-up” from “Before the Thunder Rolls” was the theme of Rita's opening and then she followed with a prayer.  It was very interesting.

The minutes were approved as written.  Nelta read a statement from Dewey Mohler that he had audited the Tecumseh Church books and found them to be in excellent order. We all thank Larry for a job well done.

A report from Darlene Peck stated that we are collecting health kits and toiletries for Faith and Fellowship during the month of March.  Supplies are to be placed up front in the church.

Carole Stone reported that visitation is March 8 and she would like to see new people there to be visitors.  No cookies are necessary as there are plenty left over from UMW Sunday.  She thanked them for the cookies.

Virginia reported that the shut-ins appreciated visits from the Pastor and others.   They enjoy them so very much.   She reported that the Worship Committee is working on Communion for the homebound and on Sunrise Services which will be held outside if the weather is nice.  It will be followed with a light brunch.   She also reported from UMW that we have 6 youth going to camp this summer which is a very encouraging turn out.  The Pastor Parish Committee is working on changing the format on the church place mats.   She asked that the Certified Training classes for Hannah and Jayne Desch be paid for by the church as Hannah is an employee and Jayne fills in for her when she is not available.  She also asked that the church pay for Ernestine’s fees for her Recertification Certificate.  The motion to pay for their training was made by Carole Stone and Pat 2nd the motion which carried.

Carolyn Edwards remarked that men are also needed for visitation and new people are always welcomed.

Betty Waller told about the church flyers and inserts that are available and she would like to see us distribute more of them.  The insert is to be updated soon.

Rita, Education Chairlady, would like to have suggestions for summer adult classes.

Jan from Trustees reported that we have a very active agenda planned.  We need to fix the ceiling tile, check the electrical system in the parsonage, work on the new sign for the church, and check the stability of the tree in the Pastor's yard.  The extra mike is on order.

Larry stated that we still have a balance in our church account and cash flow changes almost like the seasons but so far we are paying our bills.  He also passed a chart showing income and outgo for last year.  It was very interesting.

Ernestine reported the training session for the Certified Youth Workers will be held on March 28th and the cost is $20.00 for the background check.   She will be teaching the class which will start at 1:00 pm.

Neva reported that the 2009 Health Ministry project is the Healthy Living Series which will be held one session each month for 4 months.  Everyone should be interested in at least one of the programs.  Please register.

Herb reported the CERT training classes had been completed and several from our team have received their certificates.   Packets have been made up and Captains will pick them up and deliver to the patrons of their areas on March 7.  Shawnee Heights has contacted him and show an interest in the CERT program.

Pastor Josh said he would welcome comments and questions.  He asked that the Church Council come up with a policy in regard to registered sex offenders in view of the problem that had occurred at the school.  He believed such a person should be welcomed but there should be a policy in place to safeguard our children.  Olga offered to help. There has been a request by a neighborhood group to use the church for a meeting to form a watch group.  It was decided that upon Ernestine’s approval it would be OK.  A policy will be written up for use in that situation.  Pastor Josh’s interview went well.  He can apply for Ordination next year.  Pastor Josh closed with prayer.

Respectfully submitted by Willa Norwood, acting secretary
