THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL

The Tecumseh United Methodist Church Council met at 7:00 pm on February 8, 2009 with Ernestine Adams, Colleen Scott, Olga Hennessey, Herb, Barbara, and Christine Whitlow, Nelta Hennessey, Pat Krug, Virginia Martinson, Darlene Peck, Carole Stone, Betty Fergola, Diana Halstead, Carolyn Edwards, Pastor Josh and Sarah Gooding, and Willa Norwood attending.

Christine opened the meeting with a reading from “The Daily Bread” and a prayer. The reading was about a man who went to school all of his life but never used any of his knowledge, just went to school and did nothing else. It was such a waste.

Nelta thanked Ernestine for always having the packets ready for our meetings. The minutes were approved as printed.

Committee reports followed with Pat reporting that they did not have a meeting this month but passed a sign up sheet for the sale of Dillon’s cards.

Virginia had no report from the Pastor Parish Committee but read a report from Kathy Griffith of the Worship Committee who could not be present. It stated that gold candles have been purchased for the windows for next Christmas. Ernestine has agreed to be communion steward with Neva’s help in baking the bread.

Darlene reported that the Ham and Bean Dinner will be on Feb. 21st and the month of March has been designated for the congregation to donate Hygiene products to be given to East Topeka Fellowship. Pastor Josh agreed to allow us to put the supplies around the altar.

Carole said March 8th will be our next visitation Sunday.

Diana said that we have 2 youth who are going to attend camp this summer.

Ernestine gave several reports on sick people in our congregation – Leland is not doing well, Kathy Hilbert Baker and Don have been eating in the lunch room, Vernon Riley is in the hospital, Don Dial has a large mass in his abdomen and around aorta and the doctors have not decided a treatment as yet, Carl Rake’s grandfather is in critical but stable condition. Fran, the choir director, has pneumonia. Ernestine asked that someone write a nice Thank You to the Scouts for our nice dinner. She reported that there are name tags available for all members of the church and any new person attending should receive a name tag. She will conduct Certified Training on March 21st for anyone needing the training to work with children.

Herb reported that the CERT Chili Dinner was a success. He thanked everyone for their help and support. There are at present CERT Training classes being given at the church. There are about 16 attending.

Nelta asked that we remember our nice folders and get some of them out to the public. Christine asked if there has been any school for ushers discussed as yet. Pastor Josh said that they planned on discussing it at the next Worship Committee meeting. Ash Wednesday services will be on Wednesday, February 11 at 5:00pm.

Pastor Josh said he did not get his planning time as the family got sick. He asked for prayers when he appears before the Board of Professional Ministry. He is hoping to be ordained in 2010. He thanked everyone for their ideas and suggestions last month and hopes to use some ideas as time goes by. The Evangelism study began last Sunday. It is held at 4:00pm every other Sunday evening and he invited others to join. On the 3rd Thursday of each month he will be meeting with a group of Pastors. They will be studying and further preparing for ordination. Pastor Josh closed the meeting with prayer.

Respectfully submitted by Willa Norwood, Acting Secretary.
