THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL
The Administrative Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met April 5, 2009 at 7:15pm. Those present were Nelta Hennessey, chairperson, Pastor Josh Gooding, Ernestine Adams, Betty Fergola, Sarah Gooding, Kathy Griffith, Rita Halderman, Diana Halstead, Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Larry McCammon, Willa Norwood, Darlene Peck, Nancy Rush, Colleen Scott, Carole Stone, Barbara, Christine and Herb Whitlow.
Nelta led the devotional time asking Council to reflect on “What if your church closed today”. Who would miss it? What would be missed? Could our mission be forgotten in an effort to survive? A church not only needs to do a financial audit but also a mission audit. In our community are homeless, hungry persons who through our efforts their lives can be made better in sharing God’s love with all.
A correction was made to the March 1 minutes. The Health Ministry is sponsoring a series of workshops called Thrifty Living. These sessions will continue in May, July, September and October. The minutes of the March meeting were accepted as corrected.
Herb (CERT) reported that packets had been distributed to homes in our community. There will be a session held at Tecumseh Park July 24-26. It is a combined effort of Shawnee County CERT and Tecumseh CERT. Anyone is invited to attend.
Jan (Trustees) reported that Larry has been very busy working at the church. He replaced a switch on the pump, repaired the stairway railing, put weather stripping on windows, and has accomplished other tasks as they arise. Trustees are proceeding with plans to replace the sign in the front churchyard. A new portable mike and stand have been received.
Ernestine announced that the office would be closed on Good Friday.
Kathy (Worship) reported that her committee met in March. Palms were purchased for Palm Sunday worship service. Plans for sunrise service on Easter Sunday were finalized. Candles for the sanctuary windows to be used during the Christmas season have been purchased.
Larry (Finance) referred to the printed report.
Diana (UMW) reminded Council of the Lenten Supper on Thursday, April 9.
Pat (Finance) passed the sign-up sheet for the selling of grocery coupons after worship.
Darlene (Mission) delivered health kits collected by our congregation to Faith and Fellowship. The Edgerton’s who are missionaries in Haiti and receive support from TUMC will be speaking at Countryside UMC on April 19. Carpooling from our church is planned for those wishing to attend. Mission dinner will be held after worship on April 19 with proceeds going to Heifer Project.
Carole (Congregational Care) said that her committee has decided not to conduct visitation in May but will visit June 14.
Rita (Education) reports that plans have been made to hold Vacation Bible School in three sessions – the evening of June 26, a day session on June 27 and a closing on June 28. Summer Sunday School will combine the children’s classes into one group. Plans for the adult classes are still in the planning process.
Pastor Josh pointed to the busy week ahead. Lenten Supper, Labyrinth Walk, sunrise and regular worship services. All events making this week most meaningful to all. Pastor Josh remembered those in need of prayer and closed Council meeting with prayer.Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
