THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL
The Administrative Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 7:15pm. Those present were Nelta Hennessey, Chairperson, Reverend Beverly McCurdy, Ernestine Adams, Carolyn Edwards, Betty Fergola, Rita Halderman, Diana Halstead, Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Virginia Martinson, Willa Norwood, Nancy Rush, Carole Stone, Barb and Herb Whitlow.
Jan led the devotional time with the reading of a clipping she found in her grandmother’s Bible titled “My Church”. The reading told of the role the direction and inspiration the church played throughout the author’s life. Jan closed the devotional time with prayer.
The minutes of the March council meeting were approved as printed.
Nelta asked that committee reports be given to Ernestine each month in time to be included in council packet.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Betty (Missions) said the funds from the Mission Dinner in April will go to UMCOR. She also mentioned continuing fund raising for the Heifer Project whose monies will be matched by Bill Gates.
Pat (Finance) passed a sign up sheet for selling grocery certificates after worship each Sunday. She also reported that $8000 had been pledged for the Bridges to the Future campaign. Pledge cards will be received through the month of April.
Neva (Health Ministry) said that she and Ernestine and Darlene will be attending a retreat at Rock Springs on April 11 and 12.
Virginia (SPPR) thanked all who helped with the dinner for Pastor Dottie and the welcome coffee for Pastor Beverly.
Diana (UMW) announced the Mother Daughter Salad Supper May 13.
Ernestine said the last Discovery Club Meeting will be May 5 and that current participants will be given a chance to register for Vacation Bible School as well as for next year’s Discovery Club at that time.
Herb (Emergency Preparedness) reported that the meeting in March was well attended and very productive. Anyone interested in attending training sessions may still do so.
Carolyn (Congregational Care) announced the next visitation will take place June 8.
Rita (Education) asked for suggestions for Summer Sunday School.
OLD BUSINESS:
Regarding the printing of our church brochure, the last bid for printing was too high and TK Printing has been chosen.
OPEN DISCUSSION:
Nelta initiated the council’s discussion regarding cancellation of worship services due to bad weather. No decisions were made at this time.
The financial report was reviewed. The use of memorial funds and contact with families was encouraged.
Nelta received correspondence from the Washburn Campus Ministry which expressed a need for meals and snacks for student participants at meetings.
Virginia mentioned that the SPPR Committee had decided to make permanent name tags for church attendees to be worn each week. Stick on name tags will be available for visitors.
Pastor Beverly thanked everyone for the generous welcome and making her feel a part of our church.
