THE TECUMSEH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH COUNCIL
The Church Council of Tecumseh United Methodist Church met Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 7:15 pm. Those present were Herb Whitlow, Chairman, Ernestine Adams, Betty Fergola, Nelta and Steve Hennessey, Jan Kieffer, Pat Krug, Donna Johnston, Neva Martin, Willa Norwood, Nancy Rush, Carole Stone, Betty Waller, Barbara Whitlow.
Nelta led the devotional time with a reading from “Where We Stand” by Roger Rosenblat. The reading encouraged us to question whether or not God is on our side. She closed devotions with prayer.
The minutes of the August meeting were approved as printed.
There will be no regular Super Sunday meetings on November 4 as there will be Church Conference with District Superintendent Evelyn Fisher attending. Conference will begin at 4:00 pm. It was suggested that council bring snacks as usual to share at the end of Church Conference and any committees needing to meet could do so after.
The finance report was reviewed and accepted as printed.
During Committee Reports, Pat reported that Stewardship Sunday will be November 11. There will be a dinner and a speaker. Pledge cards will be passed to all attending and mailed to church members absent.
Betty Fergola shared announcements from Virginia Martinson regarding UMW news. September 18 will be Dorcas and Eve circles General Meeting at 7:00 pm. Birthday cakes for KNI may be brought to the church on that evening or the following morning to be picked up by the KNI representative. The Fall District Meeting will be Saturday, September 29 at Berryton UMC. Fall Festival will be held October 20.
Betty Waller reported on plans for apple dumplings. There will be no orders taken this year for frozen dumplings and baked dumplings will be sold individually on the day of the festival. Apples are not available locally due to a freeze in the spring which damaged all fruit crops but hopefully our apple dumpling industry will be back in full swing for next year’s festival. A date was set for preparing four bushels of apples which should make approximately 500 dumplings. The date is Saturday, October 6 at 8:30 am.
Ernestine shared some calendar items of interest. A leadership training will be held October 14 at Holton UMC. The church received a letter from Gary’s Berries regarding a fund raising opportunity in distributing a card stamped with our church name for admittance to the corn maze. The church received notice that it had been named in Florence Berry’s will. Ernestine showed a banner which will be displayed for Sunday School. We will also be receiving a banner from the Health Ministry which will be displayed at Heritage Day. After worship September 30, there will be carry-in dinner encouraging all to bring nutritious meal items. The health ministry is providing pedometers and health tips booklets. The church received a letter from the Shawnee Heights School District inviting anyone interested to a Community Visitation Program on September 26 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. The visit will include lunch and a tour of facilities. If interested, please contact Ryan Bradbury and Shawnee Heights High School.
Jan Kieffer reported that $75 was collected at the Tecumseh School Reunion on September 8 and was donated to the church for the use of the building.
Betty Waller and Pat Krug have been working on a church brochure. Their suggestion is to have a permanent brochure done at a printing company. It will contain general community and church information. Another brochure will be printed by the church which will contain more specific information such as dates and times and names which all may change occasionally. These two forms will be combined as a hand out.
Council also discussed prayer request forms to be available in the pews. This will be discussed further at a later date.
Betty Fergola volunteered to do devotions at the October meeting.
Herb closed the meeting with prayer.Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Rush, Recording Secretary
